On Track GPS
Privacy Policy
Effective August 27, 2026 · Last updated August 27, 2026
1. INTRODUCTION
On Track GPS, LLC ("On Track GPS," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the On Track GPS mobile application and related services (together, the "Service"), how we use it, who we share it with, and what choices you have.
By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account information — your email address, an encrypted form of your password, and the username or callsign you choose.
- Activity information — the pack weight you enter and any notes or labels you add to a recorded activity.
- Squad information — squad names you create, squad codes you generate or enter, and the squads you belong to.
- Support communications — anything you send us when you contact us for help.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Location data — precise GPS coordinates, elevation, and speed, collected only while you have an activity actively recording. Recording continues in the background while your phone is locked or in your pocket until you stop it in the App.
- Device information — device model, operating system version, and app version.
- Usage and diagnostic data — which features are used, error logs, and crash reports.
2.3 What We Do Not Collect
- We do not access your contacts, photos, camera, or microphone.
- We do not collect your location when you are not actively recording an activity.
- We do not track your activity across other apps or websites.
- We do not collect data from wearables or third-party fitness services.
- We never receive or store your credit card, debit card, or bank account details. All payments are handled by Apple or Google.
3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use the information we collect to:
- Record your activities and display your routes, distance, elevation, and effort scores
- Calculate statistics and totals across your account history
- Operate squad leaderboards among users you have chosen to connect with
- Manage your subscription and trial status
- Provide customer support and respond to your questions
- Diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and improve the Service
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security problems
- Comply with our legal obligations
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not serve advertising in the Service.
4. LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING
Where required by law, we process your personal information on the following bases:
- Performance of a contract — to deliver the Service you signed up for
- Consent — for location collection, which you grant through your device permissions and can withdraw at any time
- Legitimate interests — to secure, maintain, and improve the Service
- Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose information by law
5. HOW WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION
5.1 With Other Users
If you create or join a Squad, the other members of that Squad can see your username or callsign, your effort scores, and your activity statistics such as distance, elevation, duration, and pack weight.
Squads are private. Nothing in the Service is published publicly, and you control which squads you join.
5.2 With Service Providers
We use a small number of third parties to operate the Service. They are permitted to use your information only to provide services to us:
- Google Firebase — account authentication, database storage, and analytics
- Apple App Store and Google Play — subscription processing and payment
- RevenueCat — subscription status management
- Google Maps — map imagery displayed in the App
5.3 For Legal Reasons
We may disclose information where we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of On Track GPS, our users, or the public.
5.4 Business Transfers
If On Track GPS is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.
5.5 We Do Not Sell Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
6. LOCATION DATA
Because recording your location is the central function of the Service, we want to be specific about it.
- We collect precise location only during an active recording session. Recording begins when you tap to start an activity and ends when you tap to stop it.
- Recording continues in the background. Once you start, we keep recording while the App is closed, your screen is locked, or your phone is in your pocket. Your device displays a persistent notification while this is happening.
- You can stop at any time by ending the activity in the App.
- You control permission. The Service requires background location permission to function. You may revoke it at any time in your device settings, though the Service will not be able to record activities without it.
- We do not track you between activities. When no activity is recording, we are not collecting your location.
7. DATA STORAGE, SECURITY, AND RETENTION
7.1 Where Your Data Is Stored
Your data is stored on cloud infrastructure operated by Google Firebase, located in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you consent to your information being transferred to and processed in the United States.
7.2 Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit, industry-standard password hashing, and access controls limiting who can reach user data.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7.3 How Long We Keep It
- Account and activity data — for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual activities at any time.
- Usage and diagnostic data — typically up to 24 months.
- Backups — up to 90 days after deletion, as part of routine backup rotation.
When you delete your account, we delete or irreversibly anonymize your personal information within 90 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
8. YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that is inaccurate
- Delete your information
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent you previously gave
- Receive a copy of your information in a portable format
- Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights
To exercise any of these, email us at support@getontrackgps.com with the subject line "Privacy Request." We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
You can also delete your account directly in the App at any time, which removes your data as described in Section 7.3.
Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Montana, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have the rights listed above under their state statutes. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of in those categories.
Residents of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have these rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
9. CHILDREN
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@getontrackgps.com and we will delete it.
10. THIRD-PARTY LINKS
The Service may contain links to websites or services we do not operate. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.
11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date above and post the new version in the App. If the changes are material, we will notify you by email or through an in-App notice before they take effect.
Continuing to use the Service after an update takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
